Samsung introduced the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G, the top-end smartphone in the S21 series last week. Here we have the unboxing and first impressions of the phone.

The phone packs a brilliant 6.8-inch Quad HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, and for the first time it supports 120Hz refresh rate in Quad HD+ resolution. The screen’s refresh rate adjusts to the content you’re viewing from 10Hz to 120Hz that offers the best quality, whilst stretching your battery life even further. It offers 1,500nits of peak brightness, which is the brightest on a Galaxy smartphone and has 50% improved contrast ratio compared to the predecessor delivers crystal-clear, immersive images, even in bright outdoors.
The phone has Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. It has Wacom’s technology to support S Pen stylus, making it the first in the S series. You can use an existing S Pen from a Galaxy Note or Galaxy Tab or purchase an S Pen separately. Since the phone doesn’t have an S Pen slot, you also have to buy a compatible case.
The phone has a tiny punch-hole that houses a 40MP camera with PDAF and f/2.2 aperture. You can also see a small earpiece grill on the top edge which also doubles up as a secondary speaker. It has minimal bezels on the bottom. The phone comes with second-generation Qualcomm 3D Sonic Sensor that is 50% faster and 77% larger compared to Gen 1 that is used in older Samsung flagship phones. This makes unlocking the phone such an ease. It is powered by the latest Exynos 2100 5nm SoC with built-in 5G.
The power button and the volume rockers are present on the right side. There is nothing on the left side except for the antenna bands since it has a metal frame. On the bottom there is a loudspeaker grill, USB Typ-C port along with a dual SIM tray. The phone comes with 12GB RAM with 256GB storage and 16GB RAM with 512GB storage versions, but it doesn’t have an expansion slot.
It has a quad rear cameras that includes a 108MP main Samsung HM3 sensor with 12MP Nona-binning technology allowing you to capture 12 bit HDR photos. It has 100x Space Zoom which is powered by Samsung’s first-ever Dual-tele lens system — one 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and one 10MP periscope camera with 10x optical zoom, both equipped Dual Photodiode(2PD). There is also 12MP ultra-wide camera and laser auto focus.
For the first time on a Galaxy smartphone, you can shoot in 4K at 60fps across all lenses including front and rear four lenses, so you can shift to a different perspective with the same quality. Check out some camera samples.
The phone has a glass back with iconic Contour Cut Camera housing that seamlessly blends into the device’s metal frame. The phone has a glass back with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection that is coated in a luxurious Deluxe Frosted Haze matte finish that looks and feels elegant and is not slippery, but the sides are shiny and slippery. In addition to 5G, the phone also comes with Wi-Fi 6E and the phone also has Ultra-wideband capabilities (UWB).
Priced at Rs. 1,05,999 for the 12GB RAM with 256GB storage version and Rs. 1,16,999 for the 16GB RAM with 512GB storage version, the phone is available for pre-order from Amazon.in, Flipkart, Samsung.com and across Samsung’s Exclusive Stores and retail stores. Pre-booked consumers will get it on January 25, before it goes on sale starting from January 29.
