A few weeks ahead of its farewell, Adobe has rolled out a final update for its Flash Player. However, instead of providing detailed information regarding the update, the company took this opportunity to give the software a proper send-off.
“Today marks the final scheduled release of Flash Player for all regions outside of Mainland China. We want to take a moment to thank all of our customers and developers who have used and created amazing Flash Player content over the last two decades. We are proud that Flash had a crucial role in evolving web content across animation, interactivity, audio, and video. We are excited to help lead the next era of digital experiences.”
The company will no longer support Flash Player after December 31 2020, and Adobe will block Flash content from running in Flash Player beginning January 12 2021. As a matter of precaution, Adobe recommends all users to uninstall Flash Player to help protect their systems.
For some time now, we have been seeing the company periodically prompting users to uninstall Flash Player. Even though uninstalling the Flash Player is optional, Adobe recommends removing unused components promptly to keep our customers and their systems more secure.
The company announced Flash EOL back in 2017 after tech giants including Apple, Google, Microsoft, Mozilla, and Facebook agreed to phase out Flash-based content and services from their products.
While most of the browsers have already disabled Flash in their products, many are working towards removing the Flash plugin from their codebases throughout December 2020 and January 2021. It’s worth noting that the social media giant has already transferred its games from Flash to HTML5 and JavaScript-based technologies years before.
