Google Phone may get rebranded to Google Call app with new icon

The stock Phone by Google app can be found on the Pixel devices and a few other smartphones as the default dialer app, with Pixel users getting some exclusive features such as Hold for me and Call Screen. The app is rumoured to be getting a rebrand with a new icon and name change to Google Call.

The possible rebrand was spotted by a reddit user u/DominusLux, who noticed the new icon and name in a YouTube ad for the Phone by Google app. While the app on the whole looks the same, the new icon is very much in line with the recently rebranded Google icons for Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Maps, etc.

Along with this, the name has also been changed to Google Call, which is a little bit surprising as Google does not often change their app names. Although it does match the app’s feature set such as Call Screen, Hold for Me, spam warning and search. There is no information on when this feature would arrive to everyone; we expect Google to release it with a possible rebrand to Messages and Duo.
