Online Grocery Services – GetFaster Delivers Groceries in 10 Minutes to Millions of German Homes (TrendHunter.com)

GetFaster.io is a Dusseldorf-based startup in the online food delivery industry. The company operates micro fulfillment centers (MFCs) across Germany that allow it to service an astonishing 15 million households. These households are eligible for delivery times as low as 10 minutes after placing an order on the GetFaster mobile application or website.

As of May 2022, GetFaster boasts an assortment of 2,500 SKU items on its platform. On top of this, the prices offered by the service are competitive, and often lower, than in-person grocery stores due to the MFC model reducing operation costs.

Since its official launch in October of 2021, GetFaster has demonstrated consistent growth over time as it continues to expand its services. The company continually looks into expanding to new areas of Germany, adding new assortments of SKUs to its platform, and potentially expanding beyond the borders of Germany.

Microsoft reportedly working on ‘Keystone’ Xbox game streaming device

Microsoft is working on their very own streaming dongle, which is being tested empirically, according to a report from Windows Central. The new gaming platform, which will be known as Microsoft “Keystone”, will enable the company to extend the reach of its existing cloud gaming offerings, which include Xbox Cloud Gaming as well as Games Pass.

Keystone might eventually run a slimmed-down version of Windows or Xbox OS, based on the fact that “Keystone” first showed up in an OS list with other Xbox platforms such as “ERA” and “GameOS.” As for the streaming device, it will work with a TV or monitor, so it won’t require a standalone gaming console.

It integrates Xbox Cloud Gaming as well as Game Pass Ultimate. The device may also stream movies, TV shows, or games to compete with Apple TV, Fire TV Stick, and others. Microsoft may launch an Xbox game-streaming application for smart TVs alongside Samsung. No details are provided about the streaming device or gaming app.

In a response to Windows Central, a Microsoft official underlined its dedication to eliminating Xbox content limitations via low-cost hardware, while conceding that Keystone needed more time to prepare before going public. Keystone’s exact release date is still up in the air, especially not before the upcoming Xbox and Bethesda Showcase on June 12.

A statement to Windows Central stated,

As part of any technical journey, we are constantly evaluating our efforts, reviewing our learnings, and ensuring we are bringing value to our customers. We have made the decision to pivot away from the current iteration of the Keystone device. We will take our learnings and refocus our efforts on a new approach that will allow us to deliver Xbox Cloud Gaming to more players around the world in the future.

Samsung showcases the capabilities of its 200MP sensor

Samsung introduced its first 200MP smartphone camera sensor a few months back. Despite the fact that this sensor has yet to appear on a device, the competition appears to have already surpassed it. ETNews reported earlier this month that the development of a better version of the 200MP sensor is nearing completion, and the Samsung Galaxy S23 series is expected to debut in 2023.

But the latest news is that this might change in July when a new Motorola phone comes out, and Samsung also posted a video showing what the “200MP” sensor can do. In a video, Samsung showcased how much detail the HP1 sensor really retains. Engineers at Samsung were able to show off the new sensor by putting together a “Frankenstein rig” that included a test board with an external display, an extra lens, and a camera to take high-quality pictures of a cat.

Samsung’s ISOCELL HP1 camera sensor is the star of this show. It has 200MP and is so new that it is not really in any smartphones yet. The crew would just have to set up the testing deck just to use it. Using the ISOCELL HP1 and a prototype device, a 200 MP picture of the cat was taken.

This picture was then printed on a huge canvas (28 x 22 meters) using an industrial printer. The canvas was made by sewing together twelve pieces that were each 2.3m long. The printout was then transported over on a truck and installed on the wall of a building using a crane. Samsung wanted to show that the sensor could take photos with a lot of detail, and it looks like they did.

No flagship devices have it, although the Motorola Frontier will. The sensor uses an updated version of Samsung’s pixel-binning technology and deep-learning algorithms to make the most of how sensitive it is to light. Samsung’s HP1 sensor has a new pixel binning technology called ChamelonCell that can combine up to 16 pixels in multiple resolutions between 12.5MP with a 2.56m pixel pitch to 50MP (1.28m pixels) or 200MP (0.64m pixels).

Minhyuk Lee, an engineer from the Sensor Solutions Team at Samsung’s System LSI Business, said:

Choosing a cat as our subject was a difficult decision. It gave us a lot of obstacles to overcome, such as capturing such an active subject with a test board. However, the team concluded that the subject should be something that would show off a high level of detail and that was a popular photography subject at the same time.

Kaeul Lee, of the Sensor Solutions Team, said:

In the end, we thought it was most important to capture the scene in the same conditions that smartphone users would be in. Because of this, we went with a smartphone camera module with no other aids. The results were very satisfying.

Broadcom to acquire VMware for about $61 billion

Broadcom and VMware reached a deal in which Broadcom will purchase all of VMware’s outstanding shares in a cash-and-stock new agreement that values VMware at about $61 billion, premised on the current share price of Broadcom common stock on May 25, 2022. Furthermore, Broadcom will take on $8 billion of VMware’s net debt.

The transaction would rank among the most significant corporate acquisitions in the history of the technology industry, coming in third after Microsoft’s upcoming $69 billion agreement to acquire Activision Blizzard and Dell’s $67 billion purchase of EMC in 2016.

Broadcom made $27.4 billion in revenue last year. Approximately 20,000 people work for corporations worldwide, with R & D accounting for 63% of them. The company competes with AMD, Cisco Systems, Nvidia, and Intel for market share by selling a wide range of semiconductors and infrastructure software.

Transaction Details and Path to Completion

VMware stockholders can choose between $142.50 in cash or 0.2520 shares of Broadcom common stock for each VMware share. Proration will result in the exchange of 50% of VMware’s shares for cash and 50% for Broadcom common stock.

The total consideration of $138.23 per share represents a 44% premium to VMware’s closing price on May 20, 2022, the last trading day before public speculation about a potential merger, and a 32% premium to VMware’s unaffected 30-day volume weighted average price (VWAP). Broadcom shareholders will own 88% of the combined company, while VMware shareholders will own 12%

Michael Dell and Silver Lake, which own 40.2% and 10% of VMware shares, respectively, have agreed to vote for the transaction if the VMware Board continues to approve it.

Broadcom Second Quarter 2022 Results and Third Quarter Fiscal Year 2022

Along with the completion of the acquisition, Broadcom published fiscal second-quarter numbers on Thursday that beat both the top and bottom lines. Broadcom’s adjusted quarterly earnings of $9.07 per share beat analysts’ projections of $8.70 per share. Refinitiv says revenue climbed 23% year over year to $8.1 billion, topping Wall Street’s $7.9 billion forecast. The company expects current-quarter sales of $8.4 billion, above average projections. Refinitiv analysts expected $8 billion in sales.

The deal is likely to go through in Broadcom’s fiscal year 2023, if regulators and VMware shareholders give their approval. The merger agreement includes a “go-shop” provision that allows VMware and its Board of Directors to actively seek, receive, evaluate, and potentially negotiate with parties that offer alternative proposals for 40 days following the execution date of the definitive agreement, until 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on July 5, 2022.

There’s no guarantee this procedure will produce a better proposal. VMware won’t share process updates until its board decides on a possible better proposition.

Hock Tan, President and Chief Executive Officer of Broadcom, said,

Building upon our proven track record of successful M&A, this transaction combines our leading semiconductor and infrastructure software businesses with an iconic pioneer and innovator in enterprise software as we reimagine what we can deliver to customers as a leading infrastructure technology company. We look forward to VMware’s talented team joining Broadcom, further cultivating a shared culture of innovation and driving even greater value for our combined stakeholders, including both sets of shareholders.

Raghu Raghuram, Chief Executive Officer of VMware, said,

VMware has been reshaping the IT landscape for the past 24 years, helping our customers become digital businesses. We stand for innovation and unwavering support of our customers and their most important business operations and now we are extending our commitment to exceptional service and innovation by becoming the new software platform for Broadcom. Combining our assets and talented team with Broadcom’s existing enterprise software portfolio, all housed under the VMware brand, creates a remarkable enterprise software player. Collectively, we will deliver even more choice, value and innovation to customers, enabling them to thrive in this increasingly complex multi-cloud era.
